A perfect venue that checks all the boxes of a weekend getaway! The trails flow for days, the accommodation is cozy, spa treatments and great walks for non-riders and the food is incredibly scrumptious!
There is something special about family owned and run venues where they discover mountain biking and then get so excited about it, they begin to build their own trails and develop a riding destination. This is what happened to the Dohne family and what they now have is a little gem of a venue near Eston, half way between Durban and Pietermaritzburg that is really worth a visit, either for a day, or weekend.
We met up with Kyle, one of the sons, who took us out for a ride around the farm to check out the trails on offer.
They have about 30km of trail, with some nice variety including pine and wattle forests, natural indigenous bush and sugar cane roads. Add into this, sightings of Eland, Zebra, Blesbok, Wildebeest and more, and you have a great riding experience. There is a focus on singletrack and like all good trails, one trail suits riders of different abilities depending on the speed you ride.
Being in a valley, there is some honest climbing to be done early in any ride, but you get rewarded with great descending as well.
A unique offering is their Ride, Rub and Grub, where you get to ride, have a massage and meal, making for a cool day outing.
Accommodation varies from clean and simple cottages to very tastefully decorated, more modern units, but all with great views and bush feel.
You need to spend time in places like iNsingizi. Don't rush in and rush out. Take the day, take the family, go for a walk, lie in the sun, eat some food, relax.
